On November 29, 2018 4 science experts from Brandon University will be coming out for A Day of Science with our students. Thank you to Mrs. Woychyshyn for organizing this. The grade 7 and 8 students will be focusing on forensics. We will work with the scientists in block three which is the block before lunch.
There is a meeting at the Community Hall on November 30 at 7:00. At the meeting, Jay Toews will share their findings from research about our lake. There will also be a question and answer period. This topic directly relates to our study of ecosystems in Grade 7 science. I strongly encourage grade 7 and 8 students to attend with their families.
Middle Years Basketball will be starting sometime in December. Mrs. Prevost and Mrs. Shwaluk will be coaching the girls. Mr. Kleit will be coaching the boys. Girls practices will be Tuesdays or Thursdays.
On Monday, November 19, the grade 7 class joined a class Hamiota to participate in a "Refugee" simulation. The students had to work in their "family" group to make decisions that would hopefully lead them to safety and a new home. Very challenging and thought-provoking!!! Thank you to Julie Facey for organizing this great opportunity.
Thank you to everyone who attended interviews. They are an important time to discuss student achievements, challenges, and learning habits.

No school on October 19 as all Manitoba Teachers are attending Professional Development Workshops.
The magazine campaign is currently underway. Half of each class' profits go toward their own field trips and celebrations. The other half goes to the student council to help cover the cost of events that they host around the school. Wednesday, October 17 is the first collection day. It is a double day, meaning each subscription sold and turned in counts for double on the prize list. The campaign will run for about three weeks. If you need more order forms or catalogues, see a student council member or Mrs. Gerelus.

October 1 We started Global Read Aloud 2018 (GRA18). We are reading "Refugee" by Alan Gratz. Check out the links below to find out more about the book and about the program. We are using a variety of technology tools to connect globally. For example, we are using Flip Grid to connect with another grade 7/8 Class in Iowa. We are doing this as part of our technology class. So, any future posts about GRA18 will be under the class 7/8 Technology.

Hot Dog Days: September 14 and September 28
Soup Day: September 19
On hot dog days, we will need parent volunteers to work with students to cook and serve hot dogs and supervise clean up. This will be from about 10:30 to 12:30. We will also need approximately 6 dozen nut safe desserts for each hot dog day.
On the soup day, we will need parent volunteers to work with students to cook and serve the soup and supervise clean up. This will be from about 11:15 to 12:30. We will also need a least one variety of homemade soup, soup crackers, and a minimum of four boxes of Lipton Chicken Noodle Soup which is the favourite for most elementary students.
The monies raised on soup day pay for our participation with the artist in the school program. The hot dog day funds go directly to class funds.
Please contact me via email at [email protected] if you are able to help out. Thanks in advance.
