May 15 - The 7's are currently learning about texture in art. They are practicing drawing fur using a variety of techniques. If you are in the school, be sure to check out their form projects in the high school hallway.
Note: Since the semester change, Grade 8 students have art with Mr. Sidoryk. Mrs. Shwaluk teaches Grade 7 art.
April 2, 2019 - Most recently, we have looked at form in art. Students created snow sculptures to show their use of real form. We will focus on how to create detailed, vocabulary/concept-packed art reviews in the near future. Students are also continuing with their personal art goals which are becoming more specific and strategy-based rather than content based. :)
December 10 - Today, we will begin a Christmas Card using watercolours.
December 5 - Today, I checked who is finished their continuous line art and who isn't. There are 5 students who are not finished yet. Those were due yesterday.
Personal Art packages with typed journal entries are due Friday, December 7. November 22 - This week, we have been learning about and discussing line in art. How does line connect to emotion for you?
October 16 - Students have been painting and clean up has improved. Students have also set a personal goal that they will work on over time. Personal goal evidence will be taken in on December 1 for the first time. Soon, students will have a test to assess their understanding of colour theory. I recommend rewatching the colour theory video and refreshing all three areas.
Please note that on more than one occasion, clean up skills have been lacking. We use palettes and brushes in the classroom and we go to the washroom to clean them up. The palettes, the tables in the classroom, the brushes and the washroom sinks have been left in unacceptable condition. Students have also expressed that they would really like to paint more. I would like to incorporate more painting into our art class. However, I do need effort and cooperation in the role of clean up. Parents, could you please discuss how students should be cleaning up in order to ensure that their wishes to continue painting can be granted. Thanks for your support. Mrs. Shwaluk
September 25 - Our next assignment will be to recreate a monochromatic painting chosen from online. We will use acrylic paint on paper. We will select inspiration pieces today.
Design with colour theory project is due Tuesday, September 25
September 10 - We have watched the colour theory video provided in the link on the left. We reviewed today in Grade 7 and will do so in Grade 8 tomorrow. Also, a project was introduced in Grade 7 and will be introduced in Grade 8 tomorrow. Students have been asked to demonstrate their understanding of colour theory including colour schemes, colour value, and the colour wheel by designing and decorating a room. The output/project can be a drawing, a 3-D construction, or some other format. Elements in the room can be sketched, constructed, cut out from magazines etc. Just remember, the purpose is to put into action your understanding of colour gained from out art class. Due date to be announced.
