Jay Toews visited our classroom on May 15. Jay is a consultant and lake scientist aka limnologist.
Kent Lewarne guided us in some water testing on May 14 at the walking bridge on the Oak River. We tested water clarity, water depth, water temperature, water width, air temperature, wind speed and direction. We also conducted chemical analysis for phosphorus levels, dissolved oxygen, amonia, and pH. We are currently growing bacterial cultures from the water samples to measure bacteria levels. Kent is a teacher in Prairie Spirit School Division. He is a member of the River Watch program which collects data from rivers throughout Manitoba with the cooperation of students. We were very grateful to have Kent join us for the afternoon.
